To ensure random colour distribution, work from two balls of yarn at once, alternating a few rows from each ball.
Why a single yarn and what does that even mean?
When we talk about yarn construction we talk about how many plies it has in it - this affects the strength of the yarn, the handle (softness) and physical shape of the yarn which can affect the stitch definition and durability.
A single is just that, one single ply. So why? Why one ply? try saying that several times. Single Yarns are becoming more popular as people see the benefits of them, they are lighter weight, softer, give great stitch definition as they are completely round so are great for textures and patterns and are very "squishable" which is yet to become a technical term but i'm sure you'll know exactly what I mean.
Semi-felted? Surely that's not a good thing?
It is don't worry! When you make a single, the whole point is to have as little twist as possible to keep it super soft, however if left like that it would pull apart and have no durability, so singles are always 'fulled' or semi felted on the outside to keep it together, it's absolutely critical for a single yarn and doesn't affect it negatively - only positively.
